Machine Learning Engineering Intern

Who are we looking for? 

The Machine Learning Engineering Intern that joins our team will gain hands-on experience in building, deploying, and optimizing machine learning models. This internship is ideal for an entry-level ML enthusiast who wants to work on real-world AI problems, enhance their technical skills, and contribute to impactful projects.

This is a 10-week program beginning June 18, 2025, and ending August 27, 2025. This will be a part-time (up to 29 hours/week maximum) with the potential to go full-time in the future role 

What does this position pay?

The hourly compensation for this role is $20.00 for undergraduate students and $21.00 for graduate students. 

What will you do?

• Assist in building and fine-tuning machine learning models for various applications.
   Experiment with supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning techniques. 
• Implement feature engineering and data preprocessing strategies.
• Help deploy ML models into production environments (e.g., Flask, FastAPI, AWS Lambda).
• Work with Docker and Kubernetes for scalable model deployment and learn about CI/CD pipelines for ML workflows.
• Work with large datasets for training and inference. Write efficient data pipelines using Pandas, NumPy, and Spark. 
• Collaborate with data engineers to optimize storage and retrieval.
• Evaluate model accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. 
• Optimize hyperparameters using tools like Optuna, GridSearchCV, and Bayesian Optimization. 
• Utilize A/B testing and model monitoring for continuous improvement.
• Stay updated on the latest AI/ML research and frameworks while working closely with data scientists, software engineers, and product teams.
• Document findings and present learnings in team discussions.

This is an onsite position at our office in San Diego, CA.

What education and experience do you need?

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
• Strong knowledge of programming languages such as Python
• Understanding of database structures, data preprocessing techniques, and statistical modeling
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks

 Nice to haves:

• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, Keras, or Scikit-learn
• Exposure in data visualization tools like Tableau, PowerBI, or Matplotlib
